Massage therapy is widely accepted by doctors and insurance companies as medical care.
Most workplace benefit plans, automobile insurance, workers compensation (WSIB) and
medical insurance will reimburse all or some of the costs for registered massage therapy treatments.
Massage therapy is not covered by OHIP.
Workplace benefit plans
Here are the steps to find out if you have insurance coverage for massage therapy:
1. Contact your insurance company or human resource department at work to verify your coverage and the billing procedure.
2. If your insurance company allows direct billing we can invoice your insurance company directly.
(Green Shield is already pre-approved for direct billing)
3. You may have to pay an insurance deductible or co-pay.
4. You may need a doctor's prescription.
Most workplace benefit plans will cover massage therapy costs.
Generally up to $500.00 per year is available for massage therapy.
WSIB (Workplace Safety & Insurance Board)
We work with WSIB insurance which covers massage therapy treatment for certain worker injuries. WSIB must approve the massage therapy treatment prior to beginning therapy.
For more information about coverage, please visit the WSIB website for workers.
Motor Vehicle Accident Claims (MVA Insurance)
We accept MVA claims. You may be able to claim accident benefits from the insurance company if you have been injured in an automobile accident.
If you qualify, you may receive several kinds of accident benefits, including medical and rehabilitation benefits for treatment and rehabilitation assistance. In many cases this includes registered massage therapy.
For more information about MVA insurance coverage for massage therapy, call your auto insurance company or visit the Financial Services Commission of Ontario website.
